Sam | baby portrait photography | Rottingdean, East Sussex
This past weekend I had the pleasure of photographing Jo who is a friend of mine that goes back to the days when I could be found spinning around the Brighton salsa scene at least once a week. Chris & Jo had the extremely gorgeous little Sam 3 months ago and wanted to get some professional photographs of him to capture this very precious moment in their lives. Jo also wanted some extended family portraits, so also along for the photo shoot were Jo’s sister Catherine with her gorgeous 18 month old Harry as well as Jo’s parents, Ann & Chris.
When photographing newborns (well in this case nearly new born) I like to do it in the comfort of your own home so I went along to Chris and Jo’s in Rottingdean on a gorgeous summer afternoon. Sam had just woken up from a nap when I arrived so we started with some photographs of him interacting with his parents which was just the cutest thing to watch – he had so many stories to tell them. We did a few shots au naturel with each of us taking it in turns in the firing range and we were lucky to come away with no accidents – phew!
With all of that action Sam was ready for his next nap so I went and chased Harry around the house for a bit with my camera and got some precious photographs of him playing with his granddad and having story time with his nanny. 18 months is a busy age and they literally do not sit still! Getting a group family shot put my photography skills to the test and at last the idea of putting Harry on a chair proved to be the trick that worked! I had a lovely two hours photographing Jo’s family and left feeling full of the love that so beautifully flows between them all.
