Latin Summer Extravaganza Fundraiser | Blind Tiger | Brighton, East Sussex

Sunday night I went along with my camera to document the Latin Summer Extravaganza Fundraising gig for Solomon Berrio-Allen.  Solomon is a 17 year old talented dancer who has just been offered a place at the prestigious contemporary dance school PARTS (Performing Arts Training and Research Studios) in Belgium starting this September 2013 for 3 years. The school conducted auditions in 23 countries and over 1000 people auditioned for just 50 places!

I have my fingers crossed for Solomon that he gets the funding he needs to attend this incredible opportunity.  If you feel called to contribute he has created a page where you can watch a cool video on Solomon and make a donation here:

Onto the gig…well that was a real treat!  3 of Brighton’s top bands offering a beautiful range of Afro grooves, Cumbia, Salsa & Vallento.  Son Pikkante kicked off the night with some stunning Salsa that had everyone on their feet dancing.  Next up with an African flavour was Mvula Mandondo jamming out the melodies of their debut album Ambush.  Finally Pollito Boogaloo closed the night with demands for more, more, more.

I went with the intention of documenting the gig in photographs, but the fun energy of the night deserved some film so I went with the flow and I’ve put together a short video showreel to give you a flavour of the evening.  The few images that I did take clearly have a hand theme going on – it always amazes me the incredible ability that our hands contain.  This was a one off fundraiser gig, but I hope this becomes a regular night with some very fine music indeed all under one roof – result!

  1. Great film Marisa! Are you still using the D3s? I got the D4 recently and the film quality is astounding, way way better than the D3s.There are obviously cheaper options for the same quality, but I love having the option for both in one body. That said, I see very little difference in stills quality between the 2. When are you next out?

    • Thanks Gareth! Yes still using the D3s and dreaming about the D4. Only just starting to play with film and sure down the road I’ll be joining the D4 camp ;-) I’m editing in iMovie and feel as if I’m busting it at the seams so time to move to Final Cut Pro. I was meant to be on the flight tonight to Zambia but plans have changed so looks like it will either be end of the summer holidays or later in the year now. Will let you know. Hope all is great with you.
