Love From Katie | styled shoot | Petersfield, Hampshire

Earlier this month I collaborated with the hugely talented florist, Katie from Love From Katie.  It was the first time that either of us has done a styled shoot so there was an extremely sharp learning curve and bundles of fun to be had.  After lots of experience in the florist industry, Katie has just launched her own business this year in Oxford and was keen to organise a styled shoot where she could showcase her vision of what is achievable with her arrangements.  My intention is to enter the wedding photography market and gaining experience in this area is what I’m currently focusing on, so the styled shoot acted as the perfect collaboration for both of us.  I love the concept of collaborations because they offer an opportunity for creativity and trend setting – giving everyone involved a chance to bring their ideas to fruition which not only benefits the individual, but also everyone that indirectly gets to enjoy the new ideas – it’s a win win all around :-)

To begin planning the photo shoot Katie and I agreed upon a theme for the shoot to help direct our vision – soft & pretty, bold & beautiful. Next we each put together a board using Pinterest (my board and Katie’s board) to help inspire our vision and make sure that we were both working off the same page. From my perspective I was interested in looking at how her arrangements could best be photographed to represent her brand and tie in with the theme. Katie’s style and brand is beautifully traditional and delicate so I wanted to make sure the images were soft and complementing of this.

On the day of the shoot we met half way in Petersfield and spent a beautiful afternoon together indulging in creativity.  It was a delight to work with Katie, bouncing ideas around and then watching her create the most beautiful flower arrangements. In hindsight our decision to not have a creative director/stylist on board was most probably not the wisest idea because it meant a lot more work for both of us on the day, however it did mean that we each wore several different hats and learned loads! Saying that though, next time we will gladly welcome one on board! Katie also wanted some profile pictures for her website and various social media platforms so once the styled shoot was over we played around with some natural candid shots.

I loved my first styled shoot and can’t wait to start planning the next one while I’m in Zambia at the end of this month. I’ve gone a little crazy on the number of images this time, but I think you’ll agree it was worth it! ;-) There’s even some very rare behind the scenes footage of me courtesy of the lovely Katie.
