The launch of my new lifestyle blog | At Home With Malita

When I started this photography website just over 3 years ago, I remember at the time my lovely web designer friend, Mish, (who designed and built this website for me) telling me that it would grow and develop alongside me.  I didn’t really understand what she meant at the time, however about a year into writing blog content to accompany shoots and starting to develop my voice as a writer, I started to see what she was talking about.

I found my voice and passion as a writer and discovered the power of my images to truly move people or create a desire in them to take action.  I realised that I wanted to share more than just the stories of the people I was photographing.  I wanted to share more personal experiences of what was happening in my life and what I was learning.  I knew that these ideas for shoots and blog topics were moving away from and diluting my Marisa Findlay Photography brand, which is to sell my services as a photographer.

So I needed to make a plan.  Two years later and that plan is a brand new lifestyle blog called At Home With Malita, which launches today on the magical energy of the new moon in Leo!

Malita is my middle name and it was also the name of my Zambian great grandmother who was a healer. I’ve written a blog post about Who is Malita if you’re interested in finding out more, however in a nutshell, it’s about connecting with my ancestors, sharing from this higher space and honouring the wisdom.

It feels like when I had my daughter 4 years ago, my life did a great big 360 degrees – backwards (devastatingly painful) and then forwards (overwhelmingly exhilarating). It now has me traveling in a direction totally different from where I was headed before and I’m so grateful for the change of course. The sense of overwhelm and despair in those first months of motherhood, hypertension as a result of pre-eclampsia in my pregnancy and the undiagnosed post natal depression were the very things that sent me searching and beginning a journey of undoing the events of my past and reconnecting with a force far greater than myself.

Thanks to some incredible teachers who you will meet in this blog, I discovered the things that weren’t working for me in my life and saw how they were in fact harming me. I learnt about how the mind works, the power of the energy system and chakras as well as the blocks that could be released. I went on a quest to naturally heal my high blood pressure condition, with the support of medication (which I’m thankfully now off) and discovered an exciting world of nutrition and fitness as well as reconnecting with my love of yoga. Thanks to The Montessori Place, which is an amazing space for children in Hove, I discovered a way of parenting using Montessori principles that totally works for our family and I will always be eternally grateful to the inspirational teachers there that offered us new possibilities.

I remember reading a book at university called The Work We Were Born To Do by Nick Williams and knowing so strongly in that moment that my path as an accountant was not the one for me, yet I didn’t have a clue what else it could be.  Ten years later, following my intuition and the things that have moved my heart to sing and I’m here in this place of deep gratitude. It feels like this blog space forms a piece of the work I’m here to do – sharing what I have learnt and will continue to discover.

My hope is that this blog serves as a place for you to come and hang out and reconnect with that place inside of you that feels like home – full of peace, tranquility and happiness.
