VALA Garden Compound | Fashion Shoot | Lusaka, Zambia
On my last trip to Zambia in August I was approached by two very inspirational business women, Angelika Huwiler and Mu Mudenda, to photograph a fashion styled shoot in order to promote the opening of their new fashion house in Lusaka, VALA. Their passion and inspiration were infectious and it was heaps of fun having meetings to plan the shoot and then of course the actual shoot itself.
Mu and Angelika wanted a rustic metal yard in a compound for the location of the shoot. The nearest compound to the VALA store in Roma, Lusaka was Garden Compound so we set off in search of a backdrop that could work. We struck luck when we found a metal yard with a shoe maker next door. The two models, Christina Sakala and Eva van der Heide, did a brilliant job of posing for the camera with our crowd of spectators. The girls modeled clothing and accessories from Kamanga Wear, Free Woman Jewelery, Chitenge Life, Kutowa and House of Delanji, all of which can be purchased in store from VALA. If you’ve not had a chance to see what VALA looks like inside, you can look at this shoot that I did of the interior of the store before they opened their doors to the public.
I’m thrilled that the pictures have made their way to the November 2014 issue of the Bulletin & Record!
